Mr. Shigeru Ban is one of architects
representing Japan, who has globally worked on various projects to support
refugees or disaster victims by building temporary housing with the use of
various materials including paper (paper tubes).
He was awarded the Order of Arts and
Letters in France in 2011.
He is highly regarded overseas, too.
The video is about a lecture he gave.
He speaks fluently in English with good
humor about how he got to use paper tubes as building material, how he feels
conflicted as an architect who is forced to work for some people with money or
power, what motivated him to work in afflicted areas & specific contents of
activities, and how architecture philosophy arose through such activities and
so on.
