On a Wikipedia image you can see a Mandelbrot set in the shape of a tick with a heart-shaped buttock, which I call the “guy.” Watch the video, and you can see that the guy has a very complicated shape and smaller parts are similar figures when being magnified.　

Watch the video below around the 20 sec., and you can see several small guys. However, they are “connected” to the original giant guy with a thin thread. It is known that they are not simply connected to the guy but they are “simply connected” mathematically. In a word, even if having a very complicated shape, it is nothing but a deformed disc.

I think that many people accept that “eternal one” =“God”= “It” is “something unknown forever.” The text simply explains that “It” is “Self.”

When I say my house, my clothes or my wallet, it means that “I” am different from house, clothes or wallet. When I say my body, it also means that ‘I” am different from body. If so, “who am I?”

“I” can recognize my thoughts and can gaze at my mind. Therefore, thoughts or mind is not “me.” If so, “who am I?”

Like this, if I deny things that are not mine one after another, the last thing that remains is “I” who is a “pure observer.” In a word, “I” means “Self” who is a pure observer.

The small “guy” in the video is your “Self” (Jiva, Atman/Monad). It is linked to the “Self” of all other beings and similar figure to the Cosmic Self (Paramatman).

Although I appear in various forms, “Inner Self” is similar figure to the “God” and “God” itself. The state of completely realizing this is called “enlightenment.”

When we use the word “I” in our daily life, we confuse it with the belonging of “I”, not “Self” I mentioned above. It is “enlightenment” to realize “true me”=“Self”=“God” by eliminating “fake me” one after another.

Ramana Maharishi, an Indian sage, asks “Who am I?” The answer is “I am.” 

We can say that those who easily understand the above philosophical question have achieved “enlightenment.” It is not difficult at all to intellectually understand it. However, intellectual understanding is different from complete comprehension. The state of understanding that there is no doubting “macrocosmos (the great universe) and microcosmos (humanity) are similar figures” is “enlightenment.” Oriental philosophy expresses this in a very simple word: “You are that.”

“God” is the name given to “it” by humans, and “it” has never described itself as “God.” “It” is something unknown forever.However, such explanation cannot convince humans. Paradox evokes a feeling of dissatisfaction. So humans created “God” outside themselves and worshipped it.

This is the beginning of “monotheism,” which got to color the keynote of Mediterranean history. As you know, “monotheism” prohibits “idol worship.” However,the true meaning of “idol worship” is not to inscribe “god” on the image. “Monotheism” itself is nothing but the creation by humans, that is, “idol worship.”

There is the following nonsensical phrase in Exodus 3:14 of Old Testament.   <snip> In English translation it says “I am that I am.”However, when translated into Japanese, it says that “I am a person who exists.”

A person who exists? It’s totally incomprehensible. As a matter of fact,this is completely wrong translation.

The following is the true meaning:

“That” in the first half “I am that” is a relative pronoun, which represents the following sentence “I am.” However, another “that” behind this “I am” is omittedbecause it is overlapped. That is to say, it should be:

“I am that/I am (that)”

From this, the meaning of “I am that I am” is as follows: 

“I am that, the one who is called ‘it’”
