traditional Japanese decoration for the New Year, usually displayed inside the
house in the kamidana, for Toshigami, the god of the new year, to bring good
luck and prosperity in the new year.

Round rice cake and Maru
Maru as an idol cat on the Internet has a
lot of fans across the world. According to Maru’s owner, Maru seemed to love so much a box in which a Kagami-mochi (round rice cake) had
been put. He put the whole body inside the box. The owner put a plastic mochi
and orange cover on his head. He seemed to be devoted to become a Kagami-mochi
cat, caring nothing about the cover.
