[Good News] Decommission of Genkai nuclear power plant reactor set to be determined as early as next week! A power company gives up money-losing operation! Decommission following that of reactor at Tsuruga nuclear power plant!
I think it is difficult to resume the operation of nuclear power plants. Although the Abe administration has taken action to resume operations, I said to my wife last evening: the “Association of Shinto Shrines seems to give up resuming nuclear power plant operations.”
Today I have found this article. I think
that as it is known that nuclear power generation actually costs more money
than power generation by natural energy and Japan has sufficient electric power
without nuclear power generation, it is more and more difficult to resume
nuclear power plant operations.
The Association of Shinto Shrines has given
up resumption. It means that it is likely that the Nippon Kaigi (Japan
Conference) and the Shinto Association of Spiritual Leadership will steer a
course toward a similar direction and they will probably determine to choose such
direction in a week. If they have no intention to nuclearize Japan, namely,
cause World War III, nuclear power plants are unnecessary.

Kyushu Electric Power
Company has established a policy to officially determine to decommission the No. 1 reactor at the
Genkai nuclear power plant.
According to the company, it requires a massive amount of money to cope with safety
measures for the Gankai No. 1 reactor, which will be 40 years old, and
it is unprofitable. As a result, the company has determined that there is no other way but decommission.
The company also has to apply the Nuclear Regulation
Authority (NRA) with continuing the operation. The company has established a
policy to decommission the reactor, following the Tsuruga No. 1 reactor in
Fukui Prefecture.

Decommission
of Genkai No. 1 Reactor Set To Be Determined As Early As Next Week
In the wake of the Tokyo Electric Company’s
Fukushima No. 1 reactor accident, the service life of a reactor was limited to,
as a rule, 40 years. It is allowed to extend service life of a reactor to up to
20 years if it is found to comply with new regulation standards after
undergoing a screening test by NRA. The deadline of application for extension
is July and Kyushu Electric Company carefully discussed whether to decommission
the Genkai No. 1 reactor or to extend operation. The NO.1 reactor’s output
capacity is 559,000 kW, less than other nuclear power plant reactors. This
partly explains why the company has decided to decommission the reactor.
