Operation KKK, an Anonymous-led effort to shut down the Ku Klux Klan, has begun in earnest. The main Twitter account is reporting that many KKK-related sites are down after concerted hacking efforts and that more are to come as they prepare for an actioncalled HoodsOff on November 5.
The Ku Klux Klan is classified as a hate group by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center and is said to have between 5,000 and 8,000 members. Operation KKK hopes to unmask 1,000 of its prominent members.
“After closely observing so many of you for so very long, we feel confident that applying transparency to your organizational cells is the right, just, appropriate and only course of action,” wrote therepresentatives of hacker collective Anonymous on Tuesday. “We will carry out our mission in a responsible, effective manner. We appreciate your patience & support for this initiative.”
In some parts of the Internet attacks are already happening. A self-styled anti-hate group hacker who calls himself Amped Attacks and has taken down the official website for the Westboro Baptist Church in addition to a number of KKK websites. Most damaging, however, is his claim that he hacked into KKK websites and gathered identifying information for a number of state senators and mayors whose addresses appeared in KKK databases.



“I am not involved with Anonymous or any other hacktivist group. I am my own man that acts on my own accord and the take down of WBC is just something i felt like doing cause frankly i am tired of them spewing their hate message,” he said.

The list, which can be found on Pastebin, is unconfirmed although Amped Attacks claims to have cross-referenced KKK databases with public email addresses for the public figures in question.


“I worked for nine days to gather and verify all the information that was gathered before its release. I got the information from several KKK websites when I [hacked] them and was able to dump their database. I went through many emails that was signed up with these sites and a few of the emails that sparked my interest was the ones of the politicians in question there would be no reason for them to be signed up on any KKK website unless they supported it or was involved in it.”

A presidential election was held in Venezuela on 14th following the death of former President Chavez.  Acting President Maduro, successor to the late President Chavez, was elected.  AFP quoted the information from the Venezuelan national election board on 15th.

According to the information from the election board, Mr. Maduro won 50.66 percent of the vote while Mr. Capriles, the joint candidate for the opposition party, won 49.0 percent of the vote.

Mr. Maduro declared an election victory by saying, “Today we can say that we had a fair election triumph.”  Mr. Maduro is believed to follow suit with the policy to develop Venezuela proposed by Mr. Chavez.

Mr. Maduro, successor to Chavez, won the presidential election in Venezuela, South America.  As he is not so charismatic as Chavez, Maduro had a close contest with Capriles.  In actuality, however, Capriles, Maduro’s opponent, is a Jewish-Venezuelan millionaire and his parents are among the richest people in Venezuela that they control almost all mass media.  Considering the fact that through negative campaign against Maduro had been engaged in during the race, it is safe to say that this narrow margin indicates Maduro enjoys substantial support from the Chavez group (reformers).  

Incidentally, election-monitoring groups from various countries were sent to the election in Venezuela.  There is no doubt that election in Venezuela is far more democratic than that in Japan.

Indeed, it is the same with every country that “telling the truth has been criminalized.”
This is because there is not anything more inconvenient to people in power than truth.  If a law is properly applied, they cannot find any place to stay.
On the other hand, if people in power have right to use a law, they misuse the law and make the country a police state.  If somebody gives a warning to the people to prevent it, he/she is called a conspiracy theorist.  In this way, the bad who crowd around power to take the lion’s share maintain perfectly well-balanced relations with the poor who never try to understand the truth and show indifferent attitude.  If you want to change the world for better, you have no other choice but to face your own foolishness within you.

It is now midsummer in Australia, which is in the Southern Hemisphere.  Record-breaking heat waves have hit the country especially since the beginning of this year.  The highest temperature around the country until 8th was 39 degrees Celsius on average for seven consecutive days, which has broken the record for the first time in about 40 years.

In Sydney, the temperature almost reached 45 degrees Celsius exceeding the limit of the temperature with which Smartphones such as iPhone can be safely operated.  There have been more than 140 bush fires due to scorching heat and abnormal dryness in early January in New South Wales.  There is a forecast that the country will experience another record high temperature.  It is highly likely that the highest temperature will be over 50 degrees Celsius beyond expectation in some areas next week.

[Editorial] Get Meaning of “One million Students Who Take a Leave of Absence from College”

Reportedly, 933,000 Korean college students, which account for 31 percent of 2.988 million Korean college students, are on a leave of absence.  In case when all institutions of higher education such as graduate schools and open universities are included, the number of such students reaches 1,104,000.  There is a case that 47 percent of college students enrolled is on a leave of absence and another case that 83 percent of students are on a leave of absence in a department.

The ratio of college students on a leave of absence exceeded 30 percent after the Asian currency crisis and has never decreased thereafter; we have never seen the number below 900,000.  Now the concept of a college has been changed: it is a place where students are supposed to attend for five or six years.

Less than 60 percent of university graduates find employment and “secure employment” provided by corporations is long in increasing.  For this reason, it has become indispensable in college life to take a leave of absence and acquire “ability and experience advantageous to college students to find employment” such as good scores of TOEFL (Test of English Proficiency as a Foreign Language) and TOEIC (Test of English for International communication), various qualifications, award-winning achievements, internship experience, and overseas language training.  As corporations increasingly demand applicants to have such ability or experience, college students have developed the belief that good performance in college alone is no warranty of employment.

Sixty-eight percent of college students start out in life on a debt of 13 million won on average (approximately 990,000 yen) due to loaned scholarship fund.  One out of four students has to take one-semester off every other year or every two years and make money to pay for expensive tuition fees and living costs.  Many students have a sense of crisis that if they cannot find jobs immediately after graduation and have moratorium, it is more difficult to get a chance to find employment, and try to postpone graduation.  They are called “group of graduation moratorium.”  Such students on a leave of absence are virtually jobless workers, but are not reflected in the statistics on young unemployed workers.

Korean young people start economic activities at the age of 25 on average and college graduates at the age of 27.  Compared with the average age of 22.9 for Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member nations, Koreans start activities two to four years later.  With an increase of students on a leave of absence, young people are all the more later in starting out in life.  Late employment results in late marriage, which will more seriously affect a decrease in the number of children.  Some statistics show that half of students on a leave depend on their parents for a living.  The generation of their parents who are anxious about their old age is going to burden a new burden.

There were 168,000 college students in the 1970s and now are 3 million students.  After founding of a college was liberalized in 1996, the number of college students rapidly increased by more than 1 million.  At that time, 1 million college students, who are equal to current students on a leave of absence in number, were born anew.  Korean government’s college policy without foresight imposed a heavy debt on the society.  We have to thoroughly review the policy.  Corporations demand the ability, experience and graduation time of students.  It is hard to say that it is a wise policy for employment. An abnormal situation in which one out of three college students are on a leave of absence has driven Korea itself into abnormality.  The meaning of “one million students on a leave of absence from college” is never simple.

Syrian situation seems to be changing.  Three full years will have passed in March this year since Syrian conflicts started.  It was widely believed that Syria would also have changes of government like Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.  However, the Assad regime has still defended his stronghold.  Furthermore, it is likely that the second-term Obama administration is going to initiate a new development to settle Syrian conflicts.

There is a move to deploy Patriot surface-to-air missiles on the border between Turkey and Syria to put a brake on the move of Syrian air forces, while Russia, with marines on board landing craft off Syria, has shown its authority in order to stop Western military intervention.

President Assad gave a speech in Damascus on 6th and made comprehensive proposals for peace, including establishment of a national charter to end the civil wars, establishment of a new government under a new constitution and holding a free election.  These proposals, which the Assad regime has promoted, are not new.  However, international media have covered them for the first time.  In a word, he has proposed that every issue be decided “through dialogue” and the proposals aim to ward off insurgents who watch for an opportunity to topple the regime by military power.

And here, Thierry Meyssan, a French journalist, says that President Obama has decided to have David  Petraeus, commanding general of U.S. Central Command, step down, bring up the Geneva treaty together with Russia to settle the Syrian issue, and simultaneously abandon Free Syrian Army, dissident armed insurgents.

Therefore, judging from the entire movement so far, it is highly likely that Syrian conflicts will end without overturn of the Assad regime.  This accords with what this writer showed in “Coups and Anti-coupsin Washington” in this blog posted on December 26, 27 and 28.  It shows that with the start of President Obama’s second term, U.S. is switching over its diplomacy.
