The agricultural cooperatives deduct the cost of fertilizer and other materials from the 2,000 yen purchase price, leaving the farmers with just 1,000 yen per 5 kg. After the farmers pay for machinery, fuel, labor, etc., they only get about 200 yen per 5 kg.
